Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution Background Info

Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution, or BOTAR, are an acoustic Ska band started in 2001.  Comprised of members from the band Catch 22 and Streetlight Manifesto, the current lineup is made up of Tomas Kalnoky, Jamie Egan, Nick Afflitto, Marcy Ciuffreda, Rachel Goldstein, Layton Hayes, John Paul Jones, Achilles Kalnoky, Paul Lowndes, Chris Paszik, Mark Rendeiro, Dan Ross, Pete Sibilia, Shane Thompson, and Natalia Ushak.  Currently BOTAR are on a temporary break while Tomas Kalnoky’s main focus is Streetlight Manifesto.  BOTAR still plans to release new material in the future, however.

MarsBands Review

Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution combine a few genres in their music such as Classical, Ska, Reggae, Jazz and Punk.  There are a ton of people behind this amazing sound.  The more the merrier!  If you are a fan of music, you will really enjoy this band and picking out the different genres.  There are so many instruments, so much to listen to, I found myself listening to each song a number of times just to be sure I was hearing what I thought I was.

One of the unique and fun things about BOTAR is that it’s acoustic.  You won’t find an electric guitar in their songs, and it actually creates a very pleasant, warm feeling.  The confusing part of the band is trying to figure out whose songs are whose.  Because many of the members of BOTAR were/are also members of Catch 22 and Streetlight Manifesto some of the songs are redone and reused for each band, like Dear Sergio (my personal favorite).

If you are a fan of Ska, or just insanely talented musicians, MarsBands.com suggests you check out Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution.  You’ll be glad you did.

Magnum Opus. That is an arrangement worthy of Earth Wind and Fire.

I love the deconstruction and the tempo shift. Really highlights the talented orchestration. I’m a fan of 3 piece bands and amplification, but compared to a really big band like this…I can compare it to watching Jaws on my 40 inch TV in my bedroom versus being 7 years old and watching Jaws on a 40 foot screen at the drive in.
